Many thanks for this concise and important article. The introduction to this luminary of Yiddish literature is invaluable to all interested in modern Jewish identity. I am fascinated by the remnants of European Jewry that exist today, and indeed, all of pre-WWII Jewish history, and how it has been survived by many great losses, especially with respect to cultural memory.
May we never forget the voices that crafted our languages, histories and minds into a solidarity of heart towards greater freedoms in life.
