1. The word “hunky” is considered a derogatory term referring to immigrants from Eastern Europe, and particularly those from Hungary and the Ukraine. A lawsuit was dismissed in 1982 after a British Columbia Human Rights branch ruled that, although offensive, the name “Hunky Bill’s” was legal, and it did not discriminate against Canada’s Ukrainian population of about 600,000, who were free to get their borscht on at any and all of his restaurants (ref: this article from The Ukrainian Weekly, 1982).
2. Hunky Bill invented a perogy maker which (I’m certain must have) revolutionized the perogy-making process for babushkas around the world!
