Pre-PuSh Festival

Kris Rothstein

There’s so much wild and weird stuff going on at the PuSh festival it’s hard to know what to see. For a taste of what’s to come I watched their preview video and then had the challenge of matching the clips of whirling turbines, singing office workers, ukulele-playing drag queens and strobe light-illuminated breakdancers with the descriptions of the many shows.

I’m most excited about the four Twenty-Minute Musicals, which have been written especially for club PuSh. Three of the musicals are by Vancouver musicians Nick Krgovich, Veda Hille and Geoff Berner, while the final one is by Argentinean singer-songwriter Juana Molina. Hille’s musical promises a libretto culled from craigslist ads and written by Bill Richardson.
