I didn’t immediately want to read Eating Apples (NeWest), when it came in through the mail slot, perhaps because I found the cover quite unappealing. But I took it along on a short trip, and it turned out to be well worth the extra weight. Eating Apples is a collection of personal essays subtitled Knowing Women’s Lives (edited by Caterina Edwards and Kay Stewart). Short and simply written, each piece gives a glimpse of one person’s life, and feeds the reader’s curiosity about what goes on beneath the surface of daily routine. Very addictive.
