Until I found The Glenwood Treasure by Kim Moritsugu (Dundurn), I thought writers of adult books were ignoring one of the tried-and-true plots of children’s books: the joys and pitfalls of searching for treasure. Blithe is the quiet daughter of swanky Rose Park socialites who returns home for the summer after an embarrassing divorce. She’d prefer to hibernate in her parents’ coach house and steer clear of the outside world, but meetings with a bookish pre-teen, an overworked children’s author and a hunky bagel baker lead Blithe on a search for a famous local treasure. Moritsugu tells a funny, believable tale, which just happens to include a bundle of buried cash, international art forgery and some venomous back-stabbing friends.
