Thinking and Singing: Poetry and the Practice of Philosophy

Jill Boettger

Tim Lilburn, ed.

Thinking and Singing: Poetry and the Practice of Philosophy is Lilburn’s most recent project, a collaboration with Jan Zwicky, Don McKay, Dennis Lee and Robert Bringhurst. Together they think and sing about eros, dreaming, naming, rhythm and rumination, to name just a few subjects. The writing is not very accessible, but then some would argue that both poetry and philosophy are by nature not very accessible, and so the writing is appropriate. Either way, it’s a gorgeous display of the attention and devotion that five individuals can offer a fine art, and an essential contribution to the study of poetics.
