The comments about the Group

The comments about the Group of Seven are apropos. Their vision, as any vision, is limited by the ideas, ideals and constraints of their time and their artistic discipline and medium. The vibrant beauty of the paintings, as a Canadian identity, is probably what most people think of them as, not the romantic, anti-modern ideology in which they were framed. Certainly their view of Canadian culture is one that embraces the spaces that Canada made for both modern and pre-modern culture. It welcomed people into a space of opportunity and possibility.
