Art Threat is a Canadian blog about politics and the arts, so it comes as no surprise that they have started Framing Harper: A National Portrait Contest.

Since Stephen Harper cancelled the National Portrait Gallery, Art Threat has decided to create their own gallery in his honour. Art Threat invites artists to submit their portrait of Canada’s Prime Minister for inclusion in the Stephen Harper Portrait Gallery, and a chance to win (minor) fame and riches.
The Conservative Party has made many cuts to the arts, so the Art Threat jury will be looking for portraits that best embody Stephen Harper’s “commitment” to the arts and culture in Canada.
The favourite entry will win a minimum of $1000! Runners-up will also win loot, with other prizes to be announced shortly. There is no entry fee, and Art Threat encourages everyone to participate, especially employees of the federal government. Submissions from non-Canadians interested in Canadian politics are also welcome.
Selected works will be put on display in an exhibition in Ottawa and Montreal with possible shows to follow in other Canadian cities.
