booksHOW DO I GET MY BOOKS PRINTED AND BOUND?

Once you have the pages laid out with headers and/or footers, page numbers, and crop marks, you will send a digital file plus a paper printout of the book to a printing house. Your layout people will work with the printing house to make sure the files are in the correct format.

The printing house will produce a proof of the complete book, including the cover. Both you and your layout people will check this proof and report any problems to the printing house.

Once the proof has been returned to the printing house the books will be printed. The printing house also takes care of binding the books and delivering them to you and/or your distributor.

TRADITIONAL PRINTING OR DIGITAL PRINTING?

Traditional printing (on a printing press) is the most economical method for quantities of 500 books or more. For fewer than 500 books, digital printing may be less expensive. Your layout people or printing house can advise you.

At this time, black and white photographs printed on a digital printer are very grainy and do not display the subtle tones that the same photographs would have if printed on a printing press.

OVERRUNS
The printing house will print 1–2% more books than have been ordered in case a few books are spoiled. You will be billed for these extra books. You can also ask the printing house to print extra covers that you can use for promotion.
