The imminence of the end of the world is probably the best reason one could come up with for putting off finishing the siding on your new house or repairing the roof of your old one, and this is what has happened in Colorado City, Arizona, (formerly Short Creek), home of the now-imprisoned prophet of the Church of Latter Day Saints, Warren Jeffs, who predicted the end of the world so often that people just stopped finishing things.
This is only one of the many problems that accountant Bruce Wisan has to deal with as he tries to untangle a trust that holds title to most of the property in town and was, until recently, controlled by Jeffs. This complicated tale starts 10 minutes and 30 seconds into episode 373 of This American Life, on NPR.
