A New Canadian Myth for New Canadian Times

Amen.

Bravo to you, Sheila Heti - respect for this brilliant piece, notions of success in Canada are all too often defined by the corporatized plutocratic, academia-saturation of dominant media, and the very people who decide to cut arts education make room for the big stinking bitumen elephant in the room with a Yen price-tag slapped on its side (no doubt, considering the constant taste of greenhouse gas on their tongues), and further appropriate to this piece, the whole notion of arts in Canada is more and more devoid of the "artists" when culture is defined by the decidedly uncreative and politically-minded business class, the "patrons" - so thank you Sheila for redefining patronage beyond the patronizing attempt to support the arts by the award-slapping publicizing frenzies of Western fame. May the art in our country live on for ALL artists of all ways to a future of sustainable artist's living, to endless community interconnections and untold voices heard, enlightening ALL people everywhere toward unity, belonging, and love. May our Art always be for the Art, as the Artist for all Artists.
