Observatory Mansions by Edward Carey (Crown) sports a beautiful dust jacket that can be read over and over again, and the chapter starts are accompanied by wonderful illustrations by the author. The lives of the denizens of Observatory Mansions are slowly unveiled, secrets emerge, mysteries appear, a museum gathers objects: all is well wrought and even marvellous but nevertheless impossible to finish: one stops reading before the end.
