In my memory it was only a few days before his death that Stan was playing the inner harbour of Victoria. He was set up on a barge in the harbour and we sat in the warm evening with our feet dangling over the edge of the waterfront plaza/walk and listened and sang along and thought it was the best night ever. I had been a Stan fan for a long time at that point. I was only about 23 years old I guess. A few days later I awoke and switched on the radio and heard the news before I had even hit the bathroom. Tears welled up in my eyes, as I knew a national treasure had been lost. People say they remember where they were when John Lennon or JF Kennedy died. I will always remember that moment I heard about Stan. Even now it brings tears to my eyes. I miss him every time I hear his music on the radio. I sing along with tears in my heart. He truly was a legend and a Canadian hero.
