Reverse Sign-ology

Vancouver may have mountains, but Montreal has better signs.

Last year I travelled to Montreal for the first time as an adult. (Trips as a kid didn't really count as far as paying attention to the change in my surroundings; I mostly read my book in the back seat and perfected the art of ignoring Mom and Dad.)

Something I noticed while I was there was the detailed illustrations on the park signs. I don't know who drew them, but I swear I can feel the fun they had doing it. The cyclist is even wearing shades and has riding stripes on his lycra outfit.

This work of art tells me I can't do wheelies on my bike. Well, that's true, but it would be kind of cool if I could. Apparently, Montrealers are awesome cyclists –practicing their tricks in public parks so much that there needs to be no-wheelies signs. In all honesty, I haven't seen anyone doing wheelies around these parts lately. But looking back over my photos and finding this one makes me want to get out there and give it a shot. If it ever stops raining, that is.

VIFF 2024: Blink

Blink is a documentary film from National Geographic, which follows a Montreal family with four children, three of whom have retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic condition causing gradual loss of vision and probable blindness. They decide to set out on a trip around the world, in order to fill their children’s visual memories, so that they can at least recall the world and its wonders.
