Crawling for Culture on the Eastside

We started yesterday with "Sunch" (South Asian brunch) at Chutney Villa (a full platter of comfort food washed down with chai) and then we drove down the hill to take advantage of a few blessed hours of NO RAIN by taking in a little homemade culture at the annual Eastside Culture Crawl. Parked near Keefer in Strathcona and wandered in and out of homes and studios looking at (and sometimes buying) funky works of art. Think Fringe Festival for the art scene. Or Hallowe'en for grownups. Not only did we get to see good and/or surprising and/or puzzling and/or beautiful stuff, but we got to peek inside some of the oldest buildings in Vancouver and when we weren't inside tiny studios or apartments, we wandered freely along the streets marvelling at how good it felt to not be huddled under our umbrellas, running from one shelter to the next.
