Geist Authors Nominated for Vancouver Book Award

Congratulations to Geist contributors Claudia Cornwall, John Mikhail Asfour and Elee Kraljii Gardiner for their nomination for the 2012 Vancouver Book Award.

Cornwall was nominated for her biography of Vancouver writer and artist Curt Lang, At the World's Edge: Curt Lang's Vancouver (Mother Tongue Publishing). Judges noted how the book reveals, with precision and suspense, how Lang packed his too-short life with pursuits ranging from poetry and painting to log salvage, boat building, and software development. His story parallels Vancouver's own mid-twentieth-century evolution.

A review of At the World's Edge by Michael Turner appears in Geist 84-Spring 2012. Click here to read.

Editors Asfour and Gardiner were nominated for V6A: Writing from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside (Arsenal Pulp Press), a remarkable anthology that grew out of the Thursdays Writing Collective at Carnegie Community Centre. V6A shows the intellectually and culturally rich heart of the Downtown Eastside. Work by writers both known and new makes for a potent mix.

An excerpt of V6A will appear in Geist 86-Fall 2012, on newsstands early October.
