Plus, cake by @dangetsbaked, lots of great lit mag merch, and the opportunity to be part of a commemorative photo! The event is free to attend but space is limited. Please RSVP on our Eventbrite page! All ages welcome.

Make your way to the gallery room at the back of the restaurant—that’s where we’ll be celebrating! Guests are welcome to purchase drinks and food from the bar. We have the back room booked until 8pm—after that, hang out with us in the main dining room for a snack, a drink, a chat!

About Geist:

Geist magazine began as a 40-page newsprint publication in the living room of founders Stephen Osborne and Mary Schendlinger in 1990. It was established to be articulate, humorous and identifiably Canadian. As a literary magazine of ideas and culture, Geist’s artistic mission is primarily focused on the art and politics of narrative, with its cultural focus being “North of America.” We publish the best that we can find of narrative essays (fiction and non-fiction), poetry, reviews, photography, drawings, comix, puzzles and little-known facts—with a special interest in fresh interactions between text and image. Our mandate is to find and encourage a wide audience for new and established Canadian writers and artists of merit.

Geist is a ’90s kid, and our Special Issue, 131, is inspired by the decade that brought us so much. To name a few: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air; an infant internet; the release of Nelson Mandela after 27 years in prison; Nirvana; and Tamagotchis. Some things we have left behind, some things we’ve carried with us into the future. For better or for worse. Regardless, the ’90s is still with us. In this issue, you’ll encounter past, present, future. Pizza Hut, GM potatoes, gamer culture. Plus, how to live an uncreative life, the winners of our 20th Annual Postcard Story Contest, a birding adventure with Loghan Paylor, and much more.
