Day Three: Done!

Doctor Marigold: Okay, okay, another solo show to start the day. But I enjoyed Gary Boon's performance last year, the Gospel of John, and was too curious to see how he would present this Charles Dickens story of a lonely cheapjack and the deaf-mute girl he adopts to pass it up. And it was a charming way to start a gloomy Saturday, drawn into Victorian England and delicious prose. Then it ends, right when I was enjoying it most.

Playwrights Theatre Centre: Tues, Sept. 14@9:25 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17@10:25 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19@6:45 p.m.

Escape Artists II: Feeling up to viewing the end of the world? Then climb the fire escape and look down. The audience is part of the apocalypse-in-progress, where the masses have fire parties, and individuals get a reboot. Thirty-five minutes, performs rain or shine. The venue is also site of Escape Artists I.

The Fire Escape: Mon, Sept. 13@5:15 p.m., Tues, Sept. 14@5:15 p.m., Wed, Sept. 15@6:15 p.m., Thurs, Sept. 16@6:15 p.m., Fri, Sept. 17@6:15 p.m., Sat. Sept.18@1:00, 3:00, and 5:00 p.m., Sun, Sept. 19@noon, 2:00,4:00, and 6:00 p.m.

Everyone All Together All the Time: I enjoyed the exuberant energy, but the sketches felt too thin or too desperate. Relax, guys, and enjoy your own show.

False Creek Community Centre: Wed, Sept. 15@9:05 p.m., Thurs, Sept. 16@7:50 p.m., Fri, Sept. 17@5:00 p.m., Sat, Sept. 18@4:40 p.m.

When Harry Met Harry: A strong performance by Alan Girod makes Harry a sympathetic, rather than pathetic, office drone, who has perfected his work efficiency, but has failed at his people skills.

False Creek Community Centre: Tues, Sept. 14@5:00 p.m., Fri, Sept. 17@10:00 p.m., Sat, Sept. 18@1:35 p.m., Sun, Sept. 19@6:15 p.m.

Raccoonery!: I had genuine belly laughs at some point in every sketch, and even during the musical interludes. Morgan Brayton is more chameleon than raccoon, finding the funny in a burnout valedictorian circa 1984, an aggressive weight-loss guru, a 1920's child star who still yens for Shirley Temple, and a little girl who only wants some ice cream.

Performance Works: Tues, Sept. 14@5:25 p.m., Thurs, Sept. 16@10:25 p.m., Fri, Sept. 17@7:00 p.m., Sun, Sept. 19@12:25 p.m.

Die Roten Punkte: Astrid's tangle with the microphone is worth the price of admission alone, but this dynamically dysfunctional German rock duo (are they brother and sister? are they married? and how many CBGB shirts does Otto have?) turn it up to 11 in this concert promoting their third album, Kunst Rock. Complete with concert merch afterwards--including banana houses.

Performance Works: Tues, Sept. 14@9:40 p.m., Fri, Sept. 17@5:00 p.m., Sat, Sept. 18@3:30 p.m.

Phew!
