Postcards from the 2010 Vancouver Folk Music Festival

Last weekend Geist set up a booth, as we have in the past, in the community village at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. It is an opportunity to meet readers, and to make new friends, in an environment as cultured and spirited as Geist. This was my first year at the festival and my first real chance, since I moved to Vanouver last year, to see that mythicized West Coast culture in full effect.

My time at the folk festival will remain with me forever, like the memory of a young girl that you meet on the beach at a cottage getaway

You try to just let this memory be what it was, but you can’t resist the urge to retell it to yourself over and over again, and add just a little more magic to it each time you do.

Thanks to all the old friends of Geist who stopped by to say hello and all the new friends who meandered over to our little table in the back corner. I hope your time at the folk festival was memorable.

POSTcards from the Festival:

#2 Kid with Sword Skills

#3 Porta Potty Acumen

VIFF 2024: Blink

Blink is a documentary film from National Geographic, which follows a Montreal family with four children, three of whom have retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic condition causing gradual loss of vision and probable blindness. They decide to set out on a trip around the world, in order to fill their children’s visual memories, so that they can at least recall the world and its wonders.
