Soggy Sunday at the Fringe

The rain that started late Saturday afternoon continued all day Sunday, so in order to combat the grey-sameness of Vancouver, the our show selection of the day was brought to you by the letter D: diversity, divergence, and staying dry.

Freud vs His Ego: Ryan Gladstone and Bruce Horak play the roles that made Sigmund Freud famous. Irresistable combination of fun and smart: word play, physical play, and play the video game afterwards.

Revue Stage: Tues, Sept. 14@9:45 p.m., Fri, Sept. 17@5:00 p.m., Sat, Sept. 18@3:30 p.m.

A Brief History of Romantic Love: An overly weird, but linear account of two people who can't get it together. Starts in the '50s, and ends somewhere near a very large penis and tantric sex.

Revue Stage: Mon, Sept. 13@9:15 p.m., Fri, Sept. 17@10:40 p.m., Sun, Sept. 19@7:25 p.m.

Poison the Well: Set in modern Russia, two childhood friends have a chilly reunion during a hostage negotiation. Andrew Connor, of The Cody Rivers Show, spins a dark tale loaded with nostalgia, regret, and war ethics. I'm still thinking about it.Playwrights Theatre Centre: Mon, Sept. 13@5:00 p.m., Wed, Sept. 15@7:45 p.m., Sat, Sept. 18@9:45 p.m., Sun, Sept. 19@5:00 p.m.

Boca del Lupo: Value Village is one part of their Micro Theatre Series, improvised in 15 minutes or less, based on a grab bag from the eponymous secondhand store; the other is Capsule, which I haven't seen yet.

Moving Along: Rapid-fire delivery with rapid-fire lighting (lightning?). An engaging piece, but I was distracted by the lights and the performance, and not so much the words.

Performance Works: Mon, Sept. 13@10:25 p.m., Wed, Sept. 15@5:05 p.m., Fri, Sept. 17@8:35 p.m., Sat, Sept. 18@1:40 p.m.

52 Pick Up: Two people recount the history of a relationship, broken into vignettes and played in order of a tossed deck of cards. I might go back, just to see if it is just as good in a different order.

Waterfront Theatre: Thurs, Sept. 16@6:45 p.m., Sat, Sept. 18@5:35 p.m., Sun, Sept. 19@3:30 p.m.
