Educating Americans

THE EDITORS

I was on holiday in northern California during the summer of 1993. Our hostess provided various kinds of entertainment for our group each evening. One evening we were entertained by a local folk group. A significant number of their songs were—you guessed it—Stan Rogers songs, which were a great hit with the whole party (most of whom were Americans who’d never heard of Stan until that evening). The folk group knew a lot about Stan, and talked fondly about both the man and his music (and who wouldn’t!). They were educating our southern neighbours about one of our greatest Canadian musicians.
