The Nutcracker Reconsidered

The Nutcracker rich people attend a cocktail party and are entertained by dancers, then a girl falls asleep and has a violent dream involving mice. Not a great story line but turns out it's perfect for a dance recital as it can accommodate as many dancers as necessary and still provide some opportunities for solos. At the Seymour Dance School performance at the Centennial Theatre last Sunday the male contingent of the cocktail party looked to be a bunch of helpful teenaged boyfriends and brothers (none of whom were dancers) dressed in ill-fitting grey tuxedos (one wore skater shoes too), who bravely but awkwardly waltzed around the room with their designated partners. More comic relief was provided by the three- to five-year-olds who managed, with the help of their big-girl buddies, to find their way to their correct place on the stage, and point their toes and turn around a few times while staring in awe at the stage set.

was one little boy in the cast) , no matter what their body type is (not everyone had to be a skinny-minny) do their best up there on the stage made for a great afternoon. Thanks Mr. Tchaikovsky.

Sushi later at Aka Tom-Bo was the perfect way to celebrate the debut of our own little fairy dancer, who ate only edamame.
