VIFF: Bhutto a tear-jerker

Documentaries about political heavyweights always tend to be one-sided, and Bhutto is no exception; however, to be on the side of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto and see the history of her life and destiny unfold is inspiring. I wont lie, I was wiping the tears near the end there.

The film investigates the history of the Bhutto family, beginning with the partition of India and creation of Pakistan in 1947 and ending with Benazir Bhutto's assassination in 2007, just months away from the first general election since Pervez Musharraf took power in 1999. The story of her family life is painful and mesmerizing and it allows you to be swept into a story of an intriguing woman who seemingly had an unperturbed sense of duty to her country and to democracy.
