Yielding to Misinterpretation

I found this sign on North Road in New Westminster. It scores high for its hip use of abbreviation. ^5! LOL! However, said hipness comes with a price; it's not clear to which specific "peds" we must yield. So I did a little research and came up with these potential candidates:

- pedalers (People on bikes. Pedaling madly.)

- pedestals (And the people on 'em.)

- pedagogues (During school hours.)

- pedophiles (No. Heaven forbid.)

- pediatrists (They fix sick babies. You can't hold a candle to that.)

- pedalfers (Soil found in humid regions. Ok maybe not this one.)

- pedants (If only to get them to shut up)

- pedicels (Where antlers are attached to a deer’s head. Probably it's not this one either.)

- pedipalps (appendages near the mouth of a spider. Yah, don't get in the way of those.)

- pedicurists (They have entire kits full of pointy objects meant for poking under your nails.)

- pedigreed individuals (They've studied for too long. Now nothing will EVER make it all seem worthwhile.)

- pedocals (A class of soil found in arid regions. Not super likely, I guess.)

- peduncles (A band of nervous or fibrous matter connecting different parts of the brain. This one gets my vote, actually.)

"Dear City of New Westminster, thanks for replacing what might have been a mundane moment in my life with an opportunity to draw some small detail out into absurdity."

VIFF 2024: Blink

Blink is a documentary film from National Geographic, which follows a Montreal family with four children, three of whom have retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic condition causing gradual loss of vision and probable blindness. They decide to set out on a trip around the world, in order to fill their children’s visual memories, so that they can at least recall the world and its wonders.
