Budavox (DC Books) by Todd Swift is a first collection of poems. Swift writes like something still matters, but he doesn't know what. Sudden spasms send overflows of poesy polluted by drugs, booze and semen spilling down the main drag, pulling us through anonymous motels and ruminations on the Fantastic Four to a stop up on Putney Avenue, where Todd grew up "like a paper boy cast in stone." Dark and dangerous, Swift offers us a requiem for the century: "It seemed like a lot of sex at the time."
